The EXACT same thing happened to my sister in law, she lives in a remote section of Western Australia in a transportable & as they reside on the edge of small shrub bushland, they obviously have to wear shoes outside.
They always left their shoes at the back door .. until they kept waking up .. walking to the back door, only to find an odd shoe would be missing .. this went on for weeks until they sat up one evening & watched a naughty little fox coming straight for their shoes, picking certain ones & taking them back to their den !
Needless to say, there are no more shoes left at the back door !
We're sure they were looking to open a shoe store in the shrubs !
